Sell Your TPT Resources on Etsy and Reach a Whole New Audience

If you’ve been selling on Teachers Pay Teachers for a while, you have probably wondered what the next step looks like.

You’ve created resources, you understand the TPT platform, and you’re probably starting to see consistent sales. But at some point, growth starts to feel tied to one thing – more.

While creating more resources can help, it’s not the only way to grow.

Sometimes the most strategic move is getting your existing resources in front of more people, such as Etsy.

Etsy is a great platform because it gives you access to a completely different audience than TPT. These buyers are usually parents, homeschool families, tutors, and even students that are searching for resources that support learning at home.

In this episode, I sat down with Dylan Jahraus, an Etsy expert, to talk through how teachers can expand beyond TPT and start selling on Etsy without totally starting from scratch.

Why Etsy Works for TPT Sellers

The biggest advantage of Etsy is simple: it expands your audience. On TPT, your buyers are mostly teachers, whereas, on Etsy, your buyers are everyday consumers who are still searching for solutions.

That means your existing resources can serve a completely new group of people.

The best part is that you are not creating something entirely new. You are just repositioning what you already have so it can be seen by a different type of buyer.

The Key Difference Between TPT and Etsy is How You Sell Your Resources

One of the most important things to understand is how people search on Etsy. On TPT, buyers often search by standard or resource type. On Etsy, buyers search based on problems.

They are not necessarily typing in “worksheet” or “lesson plan.” Instead, they are searching for help, support, or solutions.

That means your product needs to be positioned differently. Instead of focusing on what the resource is, you need to focus on what it helps someone do.

When you make that shift, your listings will become much more aligned with how Etsy buyers actually shop.

What Actually Makes an Etsy Listing Work

Etsy is a highly visual platform and your images play a huge role in whether or not your product sells.

Your listing needs to quickly communicate what’s included, how it works, and why it will help. Most buyers are not reading long descriptions. They are scrolling through images and making fast decisions.

It’s also important to remember that you don’t need a large shop to get started. One strong listing is enough. From there, you can continue building and refining as you go.

There is also a small window when you first open your shop where Etsy gives you a bit of increased visibility, so staying consistent early on can help build momentum.

How to Start an Etsy Store Without Overcomplicating It

You do not need to overhaul your entire business to start selling on Etsy.

Simply start with one product you already have. Focus on marketing it correctly, creating strong visuals, and using keywords that reflect how buyers search.

Traffic does not have to come from ads right away. Strong SEO, Pinterest, and even organic conversations in places where parents are already asking for help can all support your growth.

One strategy that often gets overlooked is using lower-priced products to bring people into your shop. These products can increase visibility and help your shop gain traction, which can lead to more sales across your other listings.

How Etsy Can Expand Your TPT Business Without More Work

Expanding to Etsy is not about starting over. It’s about using what you’ve already created in a more strategic way.

You already have the skills and the products. You just need to put them in front of a new audience and adjust how you position them.

And if you’re still in the earlier stages of building your TPT store, that’s where your focus should be first.
