Summer Series 8: Expand Beyond TPT: How to Create and Sell High-Ticket Digital Products

Sell Higher-Ticket Digital Products Without Starting From Scratch

You’ve built your TPT store. You’ve got resources that sell, reviews that glow, and maybe even a few months of consistent income under your belt. But lately, you’ve started wondering…

What’s next?!

If you’ve ever felt like you’re outgrowing the marketplace model – or you’re just tired of having your business tied to someone else’s platform – you’re not alone. In fact, it’s a really common turning point for teacher-sellers.

I’m going to walk you through what it actually looks like to expand beyond TPT, and why it might be time to bet on yourself in a new way.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you choose to purchase through them. I only share products I truly love and recommend!

Why Sellers Start Looking Beyond TPT Expand: Please Start an Email List

For many teacher sellers, TPT is the ideal starting point. The audience is already there, the search engine is built in, and the barrier to entry is low. But once you’ve figured out the basics – product creation, marketing, SEO – you start to realize something:

You’re still playing by someone else’s rules.

And when those rules change? So does your income.

This isn’t about leaving TPT behind or burning it all down. It’s about building something in addition to what’s already working. Something that’s 100% yours.

The Truth About “Pivoting”

One thing I want to clarify: pivoting doesn’t mean scrapping your store or starting over. In fact, most of the time, it means layering a new strategy on top of your existing foundation.

You’ve already done the hardest part – proving to yourself that your ideas, resources, and experience are valuable. Now it’s about expanding your reach and diversifying your revenue.

Many former teachers (myself included!) find themselves pulled in new directions. And guess what? That’s allowed.

You can absolutely pivot into new niches and still keep your TPT store running in the background.

Just make sure you are choosing something you’re passionate about – because you’re going to be the one creating, marketing, and serving in that space. You can’t just create a bunch of random offers and hope they sell.

You have to know your audience. You have to be clear on the problem you’re solving – and how your experience uniquely equips you to solve it.

How to Get Started

Here’s your step-by-step plan:

  1. Pick your niche – Stick with teaching or explore something new
  2. Choose a product type – eBook? Mini-course? Toolkit?
  3. Validate your idea – Use ChatGPT, ask your email list, check TPT trends
  4. Create your productCanva or PowerPoint for PDFs, Loom for video
  5. Set up your shop – Start with Flodesk or a beginner-friendly platform

Final Thoughts

Expanding beyond TPT doesn’t have to be overwhelming – and it doesn’t have to mean walking away from the store you’ve built.

It just means giving yourself permission to grow – to explore other ways of serving your audience and build an income stream that doesn’t rely on someone else’s algorithm.
