If you’ve ever felt like your Teachers Pay Teachers store looks great but isn’t bringing in the traffic or daily sales you hoped for, you’re not alone.
I’m going to break down how to grow your TPT store using real coaching insights from a live session I did with Michelle Muggridge of Thinking Math Corner – a Resource Academy member and full-time classroom teacher.
This isn’t about starting completely over from scratch… It’s about making small, strategic tweaks that build your store’s momentum: pricing smarter, tightening your branding, building bundles, and using your email list to drive traffic.
Let me just say this – I can’t guarantee results. Every store is unique, but these are strategies I’ve seen work for thousands of TPT sellers.
This post also contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you purchase through them. I only recommend tools I truly use and love.
Why Learning How to Grow Your TPT Store Can Feel Complicated
Running a TPT business is more than just creating amazing resources. Growth happens when your branding, pricing, product strategy, and marketing all work together.
Even small inconsistencies – like mismatched colors on your covers and thumbnails or unclear titles – can hurt your repeat sales. And when your products are great but traffic is low, it’s usually a sign that your visibility or messaging needs adjusting.
The Good News: You Don’t Need to Start Over on TPT
When you’re figuring out how to grow your TPT store, most of the time you don’t need a full overhaul. You just need targeted adjustments that make your shop stand out.
Here are a few key things that help:
- Consistent branding so buyers instantly recognize your products.
- Strategic pricing that matches buyer expectations.
- Bundles and product lines that increase order value.
- A steady stream of off-platform traffic from your email list or YouTube channel.
These simple steps can quickly turn your store from “good” to “growing” just like Michelle did with her TPT store, Thinking Math Corner.
Step 1: Refresh Your TPT Branding for Instant Recognition
When buyers scroll through TPT search results, the deign of covers and thumbnails matter. Small inconsistencies can cause a buyer to scroll right past your product. Michelle, from Thinking Math Corner, had already done a beautiful rebrand, but a few covers still looked off-tone.
What to do to make your TPT covers and thumbnails scroll-stopping:
- Choose 2–3 brand colors and use them on every cover and thumbnail. I love to use Coolors to pick branding colors!
- If you color-code by topic (like Algebra = pink and Geometry = green), make sure those shades fit your chosen color palette.
- Keep your logo visible but clean – don’t overcrowd your cover.
Buyers often recognize your style before your name. A cohesive brand builds trust and encourages repeat purchases.
Step 2: Price Smart—Not High or Low, but Right
Pricing your resources can make or break your conversion rate. If views are high but sales are slow, that’s usually a pricing or value perception issue.
Tips for pricing your TPT resources:
- Notes packets: Around $0.50 per page is a good rule of thumb (example: 9 pages ≈ $4.50).
- Task cards, puzzles, scavenger hunts: $3–$4 is a great starting point for multi-page activities.
- Bigger bundles or full units: Test pricing based on total pages, rigor, and topic.
If your conversion rate is low (under 3 – 4%), test a small price drop for a few weeks and track the results.
Step 3: Build Product Lines and Bundles That Sell
Instead of having TPT products that are a “one-off,” try turning them into a product line and start creating seasonal and holiday versions. For example, one of Michelle’s bestsellers is a series of math emoji puzzles that she turned into a product line for her store.
Here’s why this matters:
- Product lines make your store more recognizable.
- Bundles increase average order value and improve visibility.
- Consistency builds buyer trust – teachers want to come back for more of what works.
Here’s a tip: If you’re creating themed or seasonal items, combine them into one comprehensive bundle (like “Holiday + Seasonal Emoji Logic Puzzles”). Too many smaller bundles can confuse buyers.
Step 4: Optimize Titles and Descriptions for SEO
Your goal is to make every product search-friendly and easy to skim. When I did an interview with Colleen Swanzey, the creator of SellerSpy, we talked about just how important SEO for TPT is and how it could make or break your store.
When you are listing your TPT products, here are some SEO tips:
- Use an SEO tool (like SellerSpy) to choose your keywords.
- Bold the main phrases teachers search for (like “Solving Systems of Equations” or “Math Logic Puzzles”).
- Make your description scannable – use bullet points, clear headers, and short paragraphs.
Remember: buyers skim! Make it easy for them to see what’s inside and how it helps their classroom.
Step 5: Market Beyond TPT – Your Email List Is Key
Relying on TPT’s search alone limits your growth. Michelle has a thriving email list of over 1,500 subscribers, and that’s truly one of the best tools for growth.
If you want to focus on how to grow your TPT store, email is where to focus next.
Here’s the email strategy I shared with her:
Send 2 – 3 emails per week using four “pillars”:
- Classroom Tip – A quick strategy or story that links to a resource.
- Product Highlight – Announce a new or seasonal product, or offer a flash sale.
- Content Share – Send them to your blog or YouTube video.
- Personal Story + PS – Share a relatable classroom moment, then add a “PS: Here’s a related resource” link.
If you’re just getting started with an email list, my favorite platform to use is Flodesk and you can listen about how to start an email list right here!
Step 6: Repurpose Your Content
If you’re already creating videos or blog posts, use that content multiple ways to grow your TPT store!
For example, Michelle records YouTube videos, turns them into blog posts, and uses them to write two to three emails per week.
That’s a great strategy to grow your TPT store faster without creating new content from scratch.
